10 Ways To Be Awesome Online

be awesome online

Are you addicted to being online? If you’re reading this, that answer is probably yes. Don’t worry, you’re not alone. In fact we’re so addicted to getting our daily internet fix, that we also write all kinds of tutorials on how to actually build these virtual properties so that others can visit them. Now, since we’ve arrived at the conclusion that you’re an addict, it makes sense to not fight it. Instead of that, let’s embrace it and learn how best to be awesome at it. We’re all about random bits of awesomeness here, so let’s get right to it and look at 10 ways to amp up our awesome.

1. Share Others Awesomeness

If you’ve ever been to the armpit of the USA, Los Angeles CA, you’ll know that there is no such thing as too much attention. The city of angels is filled to the brim with all manner of attention whores, publicity mongers, and look at me wanna bees that you will have a hard time even imagining you’re alive. Read: Satirical Overblown Example. What does this have to do with anything? The idea is, when you find really cool creative things from others online, don’t be afraid to share them with friends and you’re social network. The creators will thank you for it. After all, we all like to be heard.

2. Learn to Curate

At this point in the evolution of the internet, we are literally drowning in content and information. There is a huge need for content curating. By helping to curate the best of the best online, you’ll be making use of your own creativity to tell the world, “hey, this is worth checking out”. There are a million and one ways to curate from Twitter Lists, to Google Plus Circles, Paper.li, Scoop.it, Rebel Mouse, Flipboard and more. Check some of these out and see if you can put together your own collection of awesomeness.

3. Create Yourself!

One of the greatest joys in life is that of creating. It comes in so many different forms. The Carpenter creates a beautiful craftsman style house. A painter uses beautiful colors to create visual imagery. The photographer captures moments in time that stimulate our thoughts and emotions. What is your passion? Use it to create!

4. Network With The Creators

This sounds like a movie title or something! Creativity is pushed along by interacting with others in your field. None of us can create in a vacuum, we need social interaction and stimuli. Think of your favorite band. They wouldn’t be that same band if one of the core members was missing. Every person is part of that overall magic. It’s not all that much different in other creative pursuits as well. You can reach out to them at work, via Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus, or group meetups.

5. Try Hard Not To Be A Slacker

This one is hard. Sometimes, we need to be a slacker. The creative process can’t be forced and there are times when we’ll need quiet and peace in order to rebalance things and get the mind back to where it needs to be in order to create our best work. With that being said, don’t fall into the slacker trap. Give yourself some time, and if you’re coming up uninspired, there needs to be a cutoff time where you simply pick up your tools and make something happen. Put the rubber to the road, take action, and you’ll be surprised at how blocks will get moved out of your way.

6. Crush Trolls

Trolls exist unfortunately. There are people whose sole purpose it to try an instill their misery on others. They’re out there, lurking, waiting to pounce on others point of views or otherwise bring down a positive interaction. Resist, and crush these Debbie Downers with impunity.

7. Provide Valued Feedback

Some creators include the ability to comment on their works. In the case of being online, most blogs have a comments section, though this is becoming less common. Unfortunately, the internet as a whole has degenerated to YouTube caliber comments, and most people don’t want to have to deal with that. If you’re unfamiliar, visit YouTube and have a look at some of the various comments. Pure trash. Be one of the good internet addicts, and when you have the opportunity to add your two cents, do so in a positive and constructive way.

8. Never Stop Learning

We are in a world now where learning is constant and nonstop. We are lucky in so many ways to be able to have access to the ability to learn whatever we want. Find some things that really interest you and spark your creative side, then learn anything and everything you can about it. Maybe it’s Photography or Writing, or Poetry, or Web Development, or Playing in a band. Take time every day to hone your craft.

9. Improve Your Filter

There is a second side to the benefits of the ability to learn anything and everything we can as described above. There is a literal avalanche of information that we are subject to each and every day. There is no humanly possible way that you can consume and process it all, nor would it be healthy or desired to do this. With this new reality, we need to be able to have a filer which is able to discern the nuggets of gold from the noise. Think of it as a form of curation for your brain. It’s something that we’ll all need to implement to some extent, as the signal to noise ratio of our world is not slowing down anytime soon.

10. Be Yourself to be Awesome!

In other words, just be yourself. It’s the single best thing you can do for yourself and anyone around you. In fact, throw out all steps listed above and just be yourself. Everything we’ve talked about are simply ideas of how to be awesome, but no one knows how to be awesome better than yourself! However if you like some of the ideas here, knock yourself out and go for it. How will you be awesome in the upcoming year?

Conclusion

You see, it’s not hard to be awesome, it’s in us all, we just need to find it. If you liked this post, you might also like this one about crushing creativity blocks.
