Reports of Wii U’s death are greatly exaggerated. The media is a powerful thing, why else would so many persons have a vested interest in controlling it? If you we’re to believe the hype, the Wii U has been DOA, while Sony’s PlayStation 4 and Microsoft’s XBOX One are the only consoles you’ll need. While it is true that these two systems have greatly outsold Nintendo’s Wii U, here at the beginning of 2015 the Wii U is finally beginning to awaken. The secret is in the software, and Nintendo has the best of the best. Let’s take a look at why your living room should be the home of a shiny new Nintendo Wii U Game System.
I can’t think of anything more boring than playing yet another “me too” first person shooter video game. Yet, it is largely due to this genre that Xbox and PlayStation have had any success at all. Yes, the PlayStation and Xbox both have massive amounts of horsepower and while this is great for pushing polygons, the games have more often than not come up short with a lifeless feel to them. So if you subtract this genre, and please for the good of the world let’s subtract this genre permanently, the sales figures certainly may not be so hot with the Sony and Microsoft consoles.
On the other end of the spectrum is the ability so simply enjoy an actual game, not an assassin simulator, with friends and family. No one does this better than Nintendo. Nintendo has the ability to put Disney World in a box, and let you connect it to your HD TV for all to enjoy. The Wii U makes it super easy to get up and running with local multiplayer functionality right out of the box. With news of hackers taking down popular gaming networks, this can’t come at a better time. Oddly enough, these gaming networks are much more about promoting antisocial gaming behavior rather than social. Think about it. If your friend is over your house and you want to play him or her on one of these ridiculous first person shooters like Call of Duty, you’d need to actually send said person home to their own system. They could then log into the network and battle you to the death. Fun. Not.
Nintendo on the other hand makes it so simple to have fun with a friend. Let’s say you’re blasting through one of the great levels in Super Mario 3D World, and your buddy shows up at your house. They’re not going to want to sit around and twiddle their thumbs while you show off your skills with Mario. It’s as easy as your friend grabbing the second controller and pressing a button. Boom, she’s in the game as Luigi instantly. Not only that, you’re both in the most beautiful and incredible immersive 3D world full of fun, puzzles, and adventure. Maybe racing is more of your thing. Go ahead and load up the awesome Mario Kart 8 and have a blast solo, or have your friend join in on split screen and have at it.
Arguably the best video game series of all time is The Legend of Zelda franchise. From the earliest days when Link was but a pixelated square from a sky looking down perspective, to the ultra-smooth cell shading characters and lands of the Wind Waker HD, Zelda has captivated gamers like none other. And guess what? Another amazing iteration of The Legend of Zelda is on its way to the Wii U System. From the early looks of it, this will be the most incredible iteration of the game yet, and one you won’t want to miss. All you need to do is go add to the Wii U Sales numbers by going out an purchasing one for yourself so you’ll be ready when the game becomes available. Don’t worry, in the meantime, you can have more fun than you can imagine with games like Super Mario 3D World, Super Smash Bros., The Legend of Zelda Wind Waker HD, The Lego Movie Videogame, Nintendo Land, Rayman Legends, Pikmin 3, Mario Kart 8, Captain Toads Treasure Chest, and Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. Even The Verge agrees, now is the time to buy a Nintendo Wii U.
This game is simply incredible. In fact, even if you ignored everything else in this article, Super Mario 3D World is reason enough to own a Wii U. You would think that after the number of iteration of the Mario character in the lifespan of Nintendo games that they would run out of ideas for our favorite plumber. This is not the case, as Super Mario 3D World captivates the player with lush and beautiful music, a cool cat suit, and co op play that is done right. Whether you’re going solo or with a friend, Super Mario 3D World is oodles of fun. The landscapes are breathtaking with all kinds of slick textures and lighting effects built into the various worlds. Travelling through the translucent pipes while collecting coins never gets old! There is an attention to detail that is also missing from games the other guys put out. Consider the little puffs of smoke created when Mario takes a dash forward, or the always unique pattern of starts that get exploded when pouncing an enemy. Let’s not forget Bowser, who has a more menacing appearance then we’ve seen yet in any of the Mario titles.
Nintendo is one of the last great companies that holds firm the notion to only ship something once it’s ready. This is why their software typically takes longer to reach the market, and the must have killer app games don’t hit the current generation system until later in their lifespans. Only now, after three years on the market, is the Wii U really hitting it’s prime. In terms of existing Triple A titles and Upcoming games, Wii U is the winner for 2015. With the new Zelda, Mega Man Zero, Nintendo Amiibo, Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Citizens of Earth, Pokémon Pinball, Ice Cream Surfer, Chariot, and more, Nintendo is set for a blockbuster year.
There many more reasons that The Wii U Is The Best Video Game Console but don’t take our word for it, go get one for yourself and enjoy the awesome gaming to he had!
